Manuscript proposals
Hans Zell Publishers welcome proposals for new reference works in the
field of African and development studies. Please note that we no longer
publish monographic works, or edited collections, and we do not publish
fiction.
We are primarily interested in proposals for substantial reference
resources for academic libraries, which are suitable for publication in
both print and electronic formats (but we do not publish highly
illustrated works of an encyclopaedic nature).
We will also consider proposals for print only reference tools, including
bibliographies and guides to sources, directories, handbooks, and
biographical resources. However, we are unlikely to be able to consider
publication of highly specialist subject or country-specific
bibliographies, unless they are supported by a publication subsidy.
When submitting a proposal please include a synopsis setting out the scope
and rationale of the work, and why it will fill a gap in library
collections. Please include a tentative table of contents, two or three
sample pages or a range of sample entries, and provide an indication of
its length.
If applicable, we would also like some indication of competitive reference
works on the same topic, and how your proposed work is different, or
supersedes, works on the same subject.
Please provide a realistic estimate when you would be able to submit final
text, and in what format you propose to supply it.
Please supply some biographical information about the author's
credentials, or include a CV.

Email attachments should be in MS Word, but please limit proposals sent by
email to no more than 12 pages.
Please do not send entire manuscripts unless requested to do so.
